French Ladies Fall to Czechia in the Final, Home Fans Celebrate Again

B o s k o v i c e - The Czech U18 team dominated the tournament with a perfect record and their colleagues from the women´s team had a chance to accomplish the same feat. However, Team France was there to try to prevent the Czechs from winning another gold.

The final game was played in an electrifying atmosphere and the pace of the match was very attractive. The Czechs got off to a good start, but couldn´t convert on their chances. On the other hand, France managed to score. Lena Rault got on a breakaway and sneaked the puck just underneath Plucnarova´s pads.

However, Les Bleus didn´t retain the lead for very long. In the seventh minute of the game, Michaela Jancova and Sara Cajanova appeared on a counter attack and the older player from the Czech dynamic duo had no problem to score. Only 44 seconds later, Nikola Garaziova got hold of a rebound in front of the net and tucked the puck in to give Czech Republic a 2:1 lead.

The 2:1 score didn´t last long, either. Just after the second Czech goal, Jancova cut in on Marion Mousseaux from the right boards, gave the puck to Katerina Mrazova and she made no mistake. Not even 13 minutes of the game were played when the Czech ladies scored yet again, this time thanks to Martina Vonkova´s rebound effort.

Camille Gandit had a good opportunity to cut the deficit, but did not convert on a breakaway. After the break, the Czechs started focusing on tight defence and did not allow many scoring chances for Team France. However, Les Bleus got a lucky goal as a weak shot by Aurora Gauthier was deflected into the net - 4:2 for Czechia.

Team France still had a slight chance to send the game to overtime, but it quickly dimmed when Michaela Jancova got to a rebound of Mrazova´s shot and beat Mousseaux again.

Czech Republic beat France 5:2 in the finals. The bronze medalist is Team Finland thanks to winning 5:0 over Italy.
